Job Description:

VMware is the pioneer of the Software Defined Data Center and is investing in the development of next generation networking and security technologies that take advantage of the virtualization layer for delivering Software Defined Networking for Any cloud, Any app on Any device. VMware is looking for you to contribute to these projects at all stages: research, analysis, prototyping and development for multiple groups in the Networking and Advanced Security Business unit of VMware.

We are looking for a technically strong Staff Engineer to join NSX Management Plane team to contribute on developing a cloud platform product. You will be primarily responsible for designing, development, integration with VMWare products, mentor the junior team members and drive SaaS related initiatives. You should be fully hands on and no technology, framework or tool should be a barrier for you.

You will be part of team which is building next generation product and create the revolution in the world of virtual data center networking and cloud networking.

Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

The following is a schedule for the first year of joining:

  • Within 15 days of employment, become competent with VMware’s rules, guidelines, and standard operating procedures. Go through the new hire orientation and trainings.
  • Within 1 month of employment, get hands-on with the product and its use-cases that we are building for application migration.
  • Within 3-6 months of employment, learn the product area assigned to you in detail, the technology stack in use, become familiar with the project and features in the assigned domain, and get accustomed to the code base, release cycles etc. Work towards becoming competent in coding and functional dev testing of the products feature.
  • Within 1 year of employment, contribute towards engineering design, architecture, coding, reviews, process improvements, and functional automation of dev test of the products feature.
  • The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

  • Work on product features engineering design, coding, review, testing and automate the functional dev test.
  • Design across application layers and distributed systems to implement models for SaaS based deployments.
  • Work across backend and frontend teams, infrastructure, and domain teams.
  • Work on challenging problems involving distributed and federated networks to bring value to customers.
  • Work closely with a team of passionate people with a startup mindset and who want to change the status quo.
  • Debug and handle complex technical design discussions across various stakeholders.
  • Have a customer focus to ensure high quality solutions are delivered which meet the expectations of our customers and be able to work with other customer facing teams to ensure the highest levels of customer satisfaction.
  • As a Staff engineer, you will:
    Operate with a service ownership mindset to work in a DevOps mode where the dev team is responsible for all automation, quality, CI/CD, logging, and monitoring of services that are being built.

Required Qualifications:

  • Excellent design and programming skills with a focus on enterprise software using Java.
  • Hands-on experience with RESTful APIs, Spring Framework, NoSQL data bases and Key value stores.
  • Hands on developer. Ready to take any challenge with no language or framework barrier.
  • Full working knowledge of software engineering principles, design patterns and commercial product development practices in a complex larger enterprise/cloud solution.
  • Hard-working with a “whatever it takes” attitude.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
  • Strong with data structures and algorithm.
  • Basic understanding of networking.
  • Able to demonstrate effective teamwork both within the immediate team and across teams.
  • Excellent communications skills and able to lead a team of highly technical individuals.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Familiarity in cloud technologies and microservices.
  • Familiar with Agile/SCRUM development methodologies
  • You are passionate for TDD (Test Driven Development) and unit testing.
  • You have a collaborative approach and are self-motivated.
  • Working experience on SAAS based application development.
